It’s a silly joke. Friday is the last day of the working week so, if it’s only Wednesday ( for example) and you are really looking forward to the weekend you might say “ is it Friday yet?” 😳

The “yet” shows that the person wants it to be Friday, maybe they’re having a tiring week and they want the weekend to be here already.
まだ金曜日じゃないの?
Here are some other examples:
Is it lunchtime yet?
Did the postman come yet?
Can we go home yet?

@CHOPMaribo I kinda understand how they feel when they say this. But as you wrote in your Japanese translation, まだ金曜日じゃないの comes to my mind when I feel this way. And I thought it should be "Isn't it Friday yet?" not "Is it Friday yet?"
Why is this a positive sentence not a negative sentence?

Like @Brian_Walters said, it’s a kind of joke so when someone says “Is it Friday yet?” they probably know that of course it isn’t Friday yet, so they ask this in a joking kind of way.
I can’t really say why it’s a positive sentence, I guess it wouldn’t be wrong to say “Isn’t it Friday yet?”, but it’s just more natural to use the positive sentence in this case.
It sounds kind of exasperated, like on a long journey when children say “Are we there yet?”、まだ着かないの? They can see that they aren’t there yet, but they want to be there already. I guess this kind of phrase ended up as a positive sentence in English but negative in Japanese, it’s interesting 😄
