Câu hỏi về Tiếng Anh (Anh)
Hello everyone.
I'd like to improve my English (btw, should I write it like English or english?) with reading books. Could you possibly give me some recommendations?
I enjoy reading non-fiction books (but those easy ones, not something academical) and character-driven fictional books (but without much swearing and so on).
I also like fictional books from the catholic environment (I'm a roman catholic too.) and sometimes motivational books.
I don't enjoy stuff like Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Twilight, Divergent, Hunger Games... But I don't particularly hate this genre, actually, my favorite book is Six of Crows from Leigh Bardugo. :) (I've read it four times...)

I have already read in English 100 Days of Sunlight (from Abbie Emmons), non fiction book called Fluent Forever (I don't remember the author, but the book was very interesting.) and The Little Prince.
So it's not like I don't read in English at all, I'm just trying to find next one that will suite me. :)

We always capitalize "English", because it is a proper noun -- i.e. the name of something. We capitalise all countries, nationalities and languages (Slovakia, Slovak) people's names (Leigh Bardugo), the days of the week (Saturday), the months of the year (October), and all but the shortest words in a book title (Six of Crows).

I'm sorry I cannot advise you on books, but I'm sure others will :-)

I'm not a native English speaker myself, but I think I can recommend you one book series the reading of which significantly contributed to my English language knowledge and expanded my vocabulary a lot. It's called "The Clifton Chronicles" by Jeffrey Archer. It's a saga story unfolding around two English families (the Baringtons and the Cliftons) and describing their lives with all their ups and downs and adventures, all of them being woven into the historical context.
When I was reading the books, I just couldn't took my eyes off the pages, for each book ended in a cliffhanger and I couldn't help but continue reading further.
There are 7 book in the series overall covering the period from the early 20th century to the end of it.
So it might be worth checking it out. Perhaps you'll find it interesting too.😀

@Mashamaria1 Thank you, I'll definitely check that out. 😊
But I'm still curious about one thing: which methods you used for expanding your vocabulary from these books? Did you just passively read them/used flashcards (something like Anki, perhaps?)/made some kind of lists of words/something else?
I'm used to Anki, but I'd love to try something else that works. ☺️

If it's a physical copy of a book, I just underline all unfamiliar words and if I have a notebook near at hand, I try to put down in it as many words as it's possible.
When I read something in an electronic version on a mobile, I tend to make a list of words in the notes on my phone. I normally divide words into sections by topic. For me it's a really convenient way to revise new vocabulary even when I'm on my way to somewhere.
