Me lo puedes explicar es correcta, «me puedes explicarlo» no. Tendría que ser: «puedes explicármelo».

No hay diferencia, ambas son correctas.

Puedes usar cualquiera.

You can put «lo» after inifitive:

Tú puedes hacerlo.
Tú puedes ponerlo.
Tú puedes escribirlo.

In an action direct: Someone/Something - Inifnitive Verb - Lo.

But if there are a direct/relative action, you've to use first pronum:

Tú me lo puedes escribir.
Tú puedes escribírmelo.
Tú me lo puedes contar.
Tú puedes contármelo.
Yo te lo voy a decir.
Yo voy a decírtelo.

theres no difference between both thus it all falls to preference

@Higgs_Boson: let's see if I can sum it up to make it a bit easier:

¿puedes explicármelo? 'can you explain-to me-it'
or
¿me lo puedes explicar? 'to me-it-can you explain?'

As you see, they mean the same. Both sound natural in Spanish. Also, bear in mind the indirect object goes before the direct object. Ex.: explicárme(to me)lo(it). "Explicárlome" doesn't exist. People wouldn't understand. Sounds terrible btw.

Yes, you can add a direct object to an infinitive. Ex.: recogerlo (pick it), darlo (give it), recordarlo (remember it), ...

Literal translations are ofently impossible. I'm learning German myself and I have serious issues with the word order too lol. Having some previous notion of how Germanic languages work usually gives me the hint to understand general ideas and construction patterns. If you know a bit of some other Romance language, take it as a little guide (I mean, in general terms).

@teainthemorning it's my first roman language so it's very unnatural to me, but i feel like english helps a little... sometime i start out with the english sentence in my head and try to translate that, and i find my self closer to the goal than starting from german. would you agree ?

@Higgs_Boson: I do that too, but not all languages have the same roots, so it doesn't work in all cases. Time and practice makes you get familiar with the language, better than translating literally. Be careful, word order in English is closer to Spanish than in German, but not always!
