I was told that the first one is grammatically correct, but I'm inclined to say the second one. Are both sentences correct? If so what's the difference?

Only the second one is correct. "Attached" here is an adjective, so it needs to be attached to the noun.

In the first sentence, you're trying to use "attached" as a verb, but there's already a verb in this sentence (it's "find"). If the wording was, say "I've attached the document", that's when you'd put the "the" after the "attached".

@belthazar: thank you for your clarification! I've been using the second one for a while but one of my colleague told me that I should use the first one instead... I guess it's a sentence that has been used commonly (but in a wrong way) here in Japan.
